artwords Student Competition
Launched in 1998, artwords is an annual writing competition open to students enrolled in creative writing classes at the University of Minnesota. Students select an artwork on view from the museum’s permanent collection and develop an original short piece-prose or poetry-in response. The next submission deadline is March 2009. artwords is a collaboration between the Weisman and the Creative Writing Program in the Department of English.

artsounds, WAM's free audio program, is available online and on a museum iPod. artsounds tracks include exhibit-related commentary by artists, curators, students, and others-as well as tracks featuring student music compositions and student writers reading artwords prose and poetry.
